Fudge is 2  1/2 years old. She is the quietest Basset you will ever meet. Her owner told us she has never Barked or howled... & so far  other than when playing she rarely ever barks. Fudge is also very shy with new people. Once she gets to know you though she will follow you around so she doesn't miss anything. She is curious about life & needs someone she can trust to show her the world. You will get lost in Fudges' beautiful eyes & she will be a joy to have around forever.
Fudge update:

Fudge is approx. 3 years old and came from a home where she was used as breeding stock. However, unlike other animals in this type of situation, Fudge and her two companions seem to have been fairly well cared for, and do not show any signs of being abused.

Fudge is a sweet & curious girl who rarely barks and gets along well with other dogs. However she is very shy upon her first introduction to people she does not know. Her immediate response to meeting new people is to run away, which makes it very difficult for potential adopters to get to know her. To combat this issue the volunteers at DBHR have been socializing her with new people several times a week, and here’s what’s happened so far:

Judy brought Fudge to my retail store last week. We sat for about an hour, allowing Fudge to get comfortable in my presence and the smells of her surroundings. Fudge took a couple treats from me and seemed to be OK, so Judy left her with me for the rest of the day. Each time a customer came in, she ran away (but never barked), and when we were alone, she came and sat beside me. She was also very curious about my husband and frequently ran back to his office to see what he was doing, although ran when ever he would try to pet her. We took her back to Judy’s that evening, and she road very well in the car, laying quietly in the back seat the whole time. The next time Judy brought Fudge to my store, she seemed to remember me and was even happy to see me. After Judy left, we had several customers come in and Fudge ran from them every time. However when my Daughter & Son-in-law came to have lunch with me, Fudge decided that my daughter wasn’t so bad and even sat with her when I had to leave the room. She still seemed curious about my husband, but doesn’t seem comfortable with his affection yet. -- During both visits to my store, she never barked or had any accidents and never tried to run out the door, she seemed to enjoy sitting with me and followed me around when ever I would get up to do something around the store, and looked to me to keep her safe whenever a new customer would come it.

In the short time I’ve gotten to know Fudge, I can tell you that she will be a very good dog for anyone willing to take the time to get to know her. I’m not sure that she will ever get over the initial timidness of meeting new people, but she doesn’t get aggressive either. The right person(s) to adopt Fudge would be willing to come to visit her several times before they adopt her, and would open their home to a visit or two from Judy & Fudge, where Fudge would be allowed to get used to the environment & the people in it, while feeling safe that Judy was around. I believe that she will immediately gravitate toward the female in your household, but will eventually warm up to any males who would be willing to give her the time she needs to get to know them.

Because she’s been with Judy for a couple months, she’s gotten used to her environment there, and has learned to enjoy both Judy & Skip’s company. In doing so, Judy says she’s showing that she has a playful side to both her & Skip as well.

If you want a sweet and loyal companion and are willing to put in the time to get to know her, you will be rewarded with a curious and even playful pup to enjoy your life with.
